Second Show Sunday

Because Sunday is the day of rest for so many (and stats are famously low on Sundays) I am going to post some blogs from long ago.  I realize some of you might have already read them - but most of you probably haven't.  So grab a cup of coffee, kick back, and enjoy this blast from the past...because sometimes, things are better the second time around...

If I Had my Life to Live Over...

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2010

My wonderful sister Chelsea shared this with me and I want to share it with you...

If I had My Life to Live Over
I’d dare to make more mistakes next time.

I’d relax, I would limber up.
I would be sillier than I have been this trip.
I would take fewer things seriously.
I would take more chances.
I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers.
I would eat more ice cream and less beans.
I would perhaps have more actual troubles but I would have fewer imaginary ones.

You see, I’m one of those people who live sensibly and sanely, hour after hour, day after day.  Oh, I’ve had my moments, and if I had to do it over again, I’d have more of them.  In fact I’d try to have nothing else.

Just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day.  I’ve been one of those persons who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat and a parachute.

If I had to do it again, I would travel lighter than I have...

Excellent piece.

What would -I- do differently?

Not a thing.

If I had it all to do again with what I know now, the only thing different might be some of the names and faces. I like who I have become, and I can look back and see every pebble in the road that bounced me around to get me here.

I only hope that when the time comes I will be riding on the rims of life's bicycle.

Brittany,

I'm a quiet reader, but follow your blog religiously.

When I read this poem, I instantly assumed it was Jorge Luis Borges's poem Instants. Alas, it's not, but the two poems are almost exactly the same. I wonder who wrote it first and whether the other "borrowed" it.

If you like poetry, check out Borges, you'll like his work.

@ Ernesto - I love all the readers, quiet ones included :). Thank you for sharing, I will check out Borges - keep your eyes peeled for a quote in the future, perhaps!
