Arrived in Chicago after the Longest Day of my Life

This is what I did for most of the day yesterday.  A little game called chasing Isla.
Yesterday was the longest day of my life.  I have travelled solo with Isla a couple of times before, but this time was different.  This time she was no longer a baby in hibernation, but a walking, toddling mini-person.  After five gate changes (all from one end of the terminal to the other, mind you), four flight delays (spanning five hours), and one three hour flight through some monster midwest storm (the one that caused delays all over the place) - we finally made it home.  At 2am.  Our travel day began at 10:30am.  That's a long time to travel with a very active baby as a single parent.  I almost burst into tears when they grounded our flight for an hour after loading us on the plane.  Luckily, I was sitting next to a very kind woman who helped me entertain a very manic and totally overtired Isla, and another kind woman gave up her seat to give me a little extra room for her.  Isla was a total trooper and managed to go the entire day without a meltdown which I am fairly certain would qualify as a "miracle" in the Catholic Church.  She won the hearts of everyone around her and got loads of compliments from fellow passengers for being such a good girl despite the circumstances.  I, on the other hand, was not faring too well and was nearing the end of my sanity rope.  Luckily, the minute the plane engines fired up and we lifted off, our sweet angel fell into a deep slumber and remained fast asleep for the entire flight.  In retrospect, it could have been much worse - but boy does air travel blow these days.  Much better to travel by boat, I think.
She enjoyed rolling around on the carpet too, much to the enjoyment of everyone around her.
Sleeping...like a baby.

I'm Australian and live in Mississippi, my family and friends beg me to come home with the girls (2 + 3yrs) for a visit but there in no way in hell I could do it. They are terrors on an airplane and run like roaches in the light at the airport. This is why we got a sailboat. We love to travel and there is NO WAY I will do another flight with the girls. Last one ended in vomit and tears. Good luck getting back to the boat. I'm not one for meds but have you tried giving her kids dramaine? Knocks em out!

Tell me about it! I am stuck in Newark as I write this, and I am so exhausted from walking gate to gate to gate that I think I am going to cry! And I am by myself! Kudos for handling it so gracefully!

If you think it's bad this week, wait until next week when the FAA's furlough's begin under sequestration. Although with a major storm like that there are always going to be delays. Glad you guys finally made it. Hurry back so we get more sailing articles :)

I would rather travel by boat too and I have the best seat in the plane on every flight I take!
