J'Ouvert: (Up) All Night Long

So our plans to stay in a hotel in an effort to get a good nights' sleep completely backfired.  Turns out, Isla's not one for sleeping on land.  Or in a pack and play.  Instead, we shuffled around together in my bed, tossing and turning most of last night.  Since we don't usually co-sleep, I learned the unfortunate fact that she is a real squirmer, and likes to throw herself all over me as she tries to get comfy;  legs in my face, head nuzzled up in my neck, arms flung over my chest, full body on mine.  The few times I tried to get a little space and scootch over, her little hands would find me, grip me and we'd be nuzzled up again.  I must admit, it was kind of adorable.  But we needed our rest.  Just when movement settled and I thought we might be getting some zzzz's, I was awoken by a blanket being thrown over my head at 1 a.m, and when I took it off I saw Isla's face an inch from mine. "Peek-ah-boo!" she said with a smile.  And then giggled.  And then did it again and again.  It took me a while to convince her that it was not playtime, but sleep time.  Two more hours, in fact.  No bueno.

So, despite not having partaken in J'Ouvert, (pronounced "jew-vey") the all-night street party that - it would seem - inspired the Lionel Ritchie tune "All Night Long" (video. is. awesome.), I kind of feel like I did.  Anyway, I hopped in the dinghy when we put Isla down for desperately-needed nap #1, and got some pictures to give you the gist of it.  As awesome as it looked, I was very happy to be on the other side of the camera.  Some of those folks looked straight-up wrecked.  Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt thankyouverymuch.  That ship has sailed for this girl.

Now, it's nap time for all before Pretty Mas this afternoon...

Brittany,

This doesn't look like a party as much as it looks like the end of a paintball fight! Seriously, what's with all the paint?

That's it, all caught up. I started at the beginning and over the past week, read every, well almost every post. I mean I skipped over some, so when I say I read every post, I mean in the way when I say I read every line of "War and Peace". The difference being W&P is slightly shorter and not quite as rosy.

That being said, I love your post. At the risk of sounding like I'm pandering, I really enjoy your writing. Generally, speaking I'm very Spartan with compliments but I truly enjoyed catching up on your lifestyle and adventures.

I'm like many who follow your blog, who've dreamed of following my inner compass and head to the sea. Your blog has helped to jumpstart that dream. Hopefully, come next summer I'll be sailing the Great Lakes as I learn the basics.

Thanks so much for sharing so much with all of us and best wishes.

Love the last picture of the "orange guy". I wonder if he won because he got the most paint on him.

He could have be sponsored by Tropicana!

I can hear mom when these youngsters go home, "don't you dare step in here... go hose off"

ha ha great pics (esp on no sleep)

@anonymous - I know! But trust me, PARTY it is...music was PUMPING, everyone was dancing - it was pure energy. I'm not 100% sure about the paint, but it's known as "jab jab" and I think it dates back to slave days and is some sort show of opposition to power. They use clay, paint and used motor oil!!!

@Shayne - you just made my night. No, my week. Anyway, comments like this fill me with joy. So totally honored to have kept your attention for this long and will still come back for more. Thank you :) So very appreciated. We writers need words of encouragement sometimes (at least this one doe!) :)

@Nikki - Hi!! Yes, well - I am technically up at 2am right now, but that is my own insomnia. We are at the hotel and baby is fast asleep, and has been for seven hours!! Her sleep is much more important to me than mine. Hooray for victories!

@Cream Puff -totally. The marina had a hose out front to hose anyone that came into the premises off!!

It's really hard for me to imagine that I could freely participate in such a celebration before. Everything changed after covid. I even left the office and started earning with the help of a crypto exchange. This is pretty easy to do if you use crypto trading bot. In fact, my income has become higher after I finally left towards the crypto business.

Don't miss out on the fun with the J'Ouvert festivities. We invite you and your friends to join us for the night at festivals, parks, and streets around the city. You need to get youtube to mp3 and learn more new skills for video converter. Don't expect to sleep on the streets though. Our "all-night parties" will most likely be held in different places including prominent avenues and landmarks throughout New Orleans.
