A Slice of Island Life in Photos: Martinique

I know, I know....enough with the filters already.  Don't worry, I'll be more frugal with them, I promise.  I was just having so much fun playing with the colors and kind of got on a little kick there.  Scott gently urged me the other day, "maybe you should try some other settings for a change?"  What can I say?  When I find a groove (or a cool camera setting I didn't know I had) I go with it.  Creature of habit, blah blah blah.  It's the same gene that caused us to eat rice and beans for a year and the same impulse that has lead me to make brie/caramelized onion/ and sliced apple sandwiches every day for a week (when in Rome, right?).  Anyway, these are some of my favorite images from beautiful Martinique.

Pretty places, but I admit there is a bit too much of volcanic ash hue on those pics. :) People are not really dirty and the place grim. Let the real vibrant colours and sun shine! (greetings from latitude 60, 10 N, today a bit of sun but otherwise like under a lid - have been using my brightlight lamp).

I have to agree with Tytti's comment... I am not too fond of the look of your latest images. I understand you are using a camera mode that you referred to in one of your post but, as a sailor and art director, my friendly advice to you would be to publish pictures that are as close as possible to the reality you have the privilege of witnessing. Maybe some small enhancements but the current images don't relate well enough to the reality.

But do keep up the good work. Your posts are always appreciated!!

Brittany, I'm totally with you on 2 things: (1) Obsessed with the filters you're using (I for one LOVE them!) and (2) obsessed with brie/caramelized onion/ and sliced apple sandwiches! Of course I thought I was being super original when I "made up" that combo :). Keep the great pics coming!

Forget that! A photo never has to represent "reality" to be good or beautiful. Photos are often an expression of the photographer's emotional or physical experiences at that moment. I say they are beautiful and keep up the great work! These photos are as real as it gets.

It's perfectly ok to use a filter once (maybe twice), but on a several posts on every picture, hmmmmm.....

Tytti - have you been to St. Pierre?? It really is pretty run down. That is not just a photo effect. We still loved it, and thought it was magical - but it was definitely very much like the photos depict.

And everyone else - RELAX. I am just having fun with photos - good grief, I am not a photographer and I happen to really like the effect...you take pictures your way, I'll take pictures mine :)

No I haven't and I'm sorry to hear that. Had to have a deeper look http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Pierre,_Martinique
A cafeteria owner in the neighbourhood married here is from Martinique.
You keep playing with the camera, I hope "Santa" has heard my wish for a new one. :)
