How to Kill Cockroaches

I made some killer cookies yesterday.  No, seriously...They were actually deadly.  Made. With. Poison. I might not enjoy cooking but I'm not gonna lie, this particular batch was a pleasure to make.  I'm so sinister, I know.

I mentioned yesterday that we found a few baby roaches aboard our boat.  Granted, we've only seen a few but, as they say, where there is one there are many.  Scott and I immediately took to Cruisers Forum to research all things cockroach on boats.  Because everyone seems to have different experience with what works and what doesn't, Scott and I decided to wage a full blown offensive and try them all.

One of the more "fun" and "interesting" ideas we found was to make "roach cookies".  As most of you are well aware, I'm no galley guru but even I thought "Heck! I could make those!"  I decided to give it a go while Isla was napping because a) the main ingredient is boric acid and 2) I didn't want our first mommy/daughter cooking experience to involve poison.  Call me crazy.

They are super easy to make, require NO baking and all you need are three simple ingredients.  If not for the poison, these little treats would take Pinterest by storm.

• 3 Tablespoons BORIC ACID
• 2 Tablespoons POWDERED SUGAR
• 1.5 Tablespoons SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK.                                              
• (these measurements are estimates and not exact. Just make sure you put in plenty of the acid stuff) 

Here is how you whip up this killer little treat:

1. Mix all the ingredients together until they reach the consistency of peanut butter
2. Spoon them onto parchment paper and allow them to dry for 3-5 hours
3. Place in strategic places around your boat/house but KEEP OUT OF REACH OF ANIMALS AND CHILDREN.

I should warn you:  the concoction looks deliciously like cupcake frosting (which I love) so please be sure to refrain from licking the spoon.  Also be sure to clean all surfaces thoroughly afterward to make sure any stray acid powder doesn't get in your food.

Will the roach cookies work?  It's going to be hard to say because we also laid about twenty different roach motels around the boat (2 different types), and fogged the boat with two foggers at once.  We're pretty certain one of these things, if not the combo of all three, will result in the death of these disgusting little critters.  We are also going to keep the poisons there for now, and fog again in a couple weeks to kill of any eggs that hatch in the next 20-30 days.

War has been waged on our boat.  There are not many things that I know for sure, but one thing I do know is that last night was not a good night to be a cockroach on our boat.
